Ten Great Hen Party Ideas For Smaller Groups
Keeping your hen party to a select few? Here are a few fun ideas for a group that’s small but perfectly formed.
Hen parties come in all shapes and sizes. And whilst for some brides, the idea of a wild night on the town with a huge group of friends and family is their idea of heaven, others prefer to have something a little more intimate, but certainly no less fun! Whether you’re the sort of bride that loves organised fun or prefers something a little more low-key, we have ten great hen party ideas for small groups.
A classic — afternoon tea is perfect for a mixed crowd of mums, mums-to-be, grannies, teens, and best friends. It’s a place that everyone can be made to feel comfortable. Make a playlist, organise some party games and get a few bottles of fizz on ice. If you’re looking for Afternoon Tea in the Alsager, Stoke-On-Trent or South Cheshire area, we’re happy to cater to Hen Parties. Our private boardroom tucked away in our charming Manor House Hotel, will allow you complete privacy and comes complete with a projector for that all-important game of Mr, Mrs.
Learn Something New
A class can be a brilliant way to keep your hens entertained for the afternoon, by learning something new and having a giggle in the process. Host at home, or hire a space, our private boardroom is perfect, and then hire a local dance teacher. Learning a routine is a sure-fire way to get all of your hens up on the dance floor on the night of your wedding. For something a little more relaxed, try a jewelry-making class or pottery painting. Emma Bridgewater has a fantastic studio in Stoke-On-Trent where you can pick a piece of pottery and start getting creative.
Cocktail Making or Chocolate Making Class
What could be more perfect for a small group than having the chance to create your very own cocktails to enjoy together. A cocktail-making class is a perfect combination of having a fun activity to do with the bonus of being able to sit down for a chat with your nearest and dearest afterward — cocktail in hand of course! Either find a bar that offers in-house classes, like Vodka Revolution in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, or hire a bartender to come to you. Pitch up in your garden or hire a private space. If your loved ones aren’t much for a drink, then a chocolate-making class is a perfect alternative, and still includes a little indulgence for everyone to enjoy.
A Private Dinner Service
Make your dinner just a little more special, by hiring a private chef to your home for a relaxed but fabulous dinner service, that’s unique to you and your guests. Go the extra mile by theming the night as black tie or 1920’s glam. Lacking a table big enough for your guests? Give us a call and see how we can help. We even have in-house chefs who can help you create a great menu for your event.
Is there anyone who doesn’t love a spa break? For smaller groups, they’re perfect as everyone can enjoy a weekend of lounging by the pool, dinners, drinks, and glorious spa treatments, with enough time for everyone to be well catered for. If a weekend seems too long, then why not opt for a spa day, followed by an afternoon tea. The Manor House will be opening our own luxury wellness spa garden later this year, so keep an eye on our spa page for updates and to be the first to book your hen party with us.
Too much relaxing isn’t for everyone. So if your hens prefer something that requires a bit more brainpower, then an escape room could be a fun and challenging way to spend your day. Most escape rooms don’t cater for big groups and most stop at around 6-8, so they’re great for a small group of friends. Debrief after yours with a well-earned dinner and drinks or hit the town.
Go to a Show
There are some great theatres across Cheshire and Stoke-On-Trent and with a smaller group, you’re far more likely to get the best seats for the show you want to see. Or hop on the train and hit Manchester or Liverpool for a pre-Theatre meal before you take in the main event.
Going to a theme park with a huge group of people might be a challenge, but if your group of hens is compact and up for a few thrills, then Alton Towers is a brilliant place for a hen do. Try the rollercoasters, the haunted house or if scares aren’t your thing, then enjoy the gardens before stopping for a spot of lunch. It’s sure to be a memorable day for all involved and if you have guests coming from far, our hotel is less than an hour away. Why not book a few rooms and top the day off with a meal in our Stables Bar.
Go to a Water Park
If Alton Towers seems a little daunting, but you’re still looking for some thrills and spills, then WaterWorld is a brilliant alternative and is just 15 minutes drive from our hotel in leafy Alsager. This is a perfect option for hen parties who want to involve kids, or are simply a group of big kids themselves!
Create Your Own Party
Looking for a hen party that’s totally unique? Mix and match some of our ideas or plan your own event. Ask your guests to bake a treat to share and think of a sweet or funny story about the bride to spill to the group. Plan some games and organise a treasure hunt around your local town that’s personalised to the bride. It will feel like a completely special day that caters to everyone involved and that the bride will cherish.
If you need a great place to host your event, get in touch and we’ll try to help in any way we can. Whether it’s a private room for your afternoon tea, lesson, or games or a place to enjoy a meal with drinks afterward, we love to accommodate Hen Parties of all shapes and sizes.
